Plant-Based Universities
A purely plant-based diet is the next logical step in combating the climate crisis
Aim of project
We need universities to take responsibility to tackle the climate crisis. The scientific evidence is clear: we need a transition to a plant-based food system to combat the climate crisis, man-made biodiversity loss and further transgressions of planetary boundaries. That is why we are calling for a gradual transition to 100% plant-based food by the fall semester of 2028.
Effect
Switching to plant-based catering can save up to 50% of greenhouse gases and 76% of agricultural land globally. In 2023, 434 tonnes of CO2eq were emitted by the university in the food sector. This will be significantly lessened by switching to plant-based catering.
Status
The team is working at full speed to submit the initiative to the student council and hold talks with those responsible. They are also working on increasing the visibility of the campaign.
